Try This!

By Katrina

“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest…” Hebrews 4:1-3a

How many of you have tried the rosemary latte at Union Station that the Roasterie has? I have not personally, but it is definitely on my bucket list to try. You have probably read various posts from us about what the Lord has been teaching us about rest. And, I am glad to say; I am learning a balance of rest, work and play! Why is God so adamant about rest? It is even one of the Ten Commandments: Remember the Sabbath by keeping it Holy (brush up on your Ten Commandments in Exodus 20). I have been practicing rest, and when you rest, you have time to think while renewing your mind, spirit and body. And when you have time to think, your mind wanders. And, when your mind wanders you think up some pretty funny and ridiculous things. When you think up pretty funny and ridiculous things, you might even try them just to say you did. This is probably why adults are afraid of too much free time for teens- but teens, let’s face it: you can do some pretty creative, hilarious and imaginative things when you have free space to think!

So, going back to the latte idea, I have heard of this amazing drink and really want to try it. In the true practicing of rest yesterday I had time to let my mind wander. And wander it did! All of a sudden I had a crazy thought and decided to try it – and if I do say so myself, it was a success! If you are reading this on a Saturday morning, you probably already have your coffee in hand. But go ahead and tuck this idea away for next weekend. From my heart to yours- here’s a new recipe from my kitchen and little corner of happiness:

Katrina’s (Now-Famous) Latte

In a French press, combine:

  • 4 TBSP plain, ground coffee
  • 2 TBSP cinnamon
  • 1 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 TBSP dried peppermint leaves

Boil water and pour over the mixture and let steep for 5 minutes or as long as desired. Then, add:

  • 1 tsp vanilla in a mug and pour coffee and creamer (I use almond milk) in the amounts that you would personally prefer.

Enjoy this flavor combination!
